My Dog and I#3

February 1,2022 was an eventful day for Axl.

It began as a normal day for him — however in the evening his stomach felt unwell. He had a runny poop. I had to take him out several times and make sure he had water.

I took him to my room and he went in his crate to sleep as usual. But by midnight he was whimpering and couldn’t sleep. I woke up to saw that he had pooped in his crate, which he never does!.

Alarmed, I went running down the stairs and told my dad. He rushed up. He cleaned his crate while I tried to calm him.

I was so tired and I wasn’t able to help anymore, so my dad took him down and stayed with him. My dad stayed up that whole night taking him out as needed. He could barely sleep.

Next day, we went to the doctor’s office with a sample of his poop. We found out in a few hours that he had an infection called “giardia”.

This is a parasitic disease that interrupts the body’s stomach and can make the dog have a lot of diarrhea. This disease caused him to poop over 7 times in one night !! He was wiped out.

After that, the doctors prescribed Axl with antibiotics and probiotics. He would take them over the week. He got a special meal of boiled chicken and rice. We mixed medicine in his food since it was the only way we could get him to eat.

After 6 days of giving him the medicine we decided to take him on our weekend 6 mile walk to a restaurant.

He was enjoying himself in the grass on the way to the restaurant, hopping and bounding in the fields, and doing the normal squirrel chasing and meeting other dogs.

The next poop had clear improvement - yay ! — we all were happy since 1) he is recovering and 2) we all could sleep!

Happy Dog!
Man’s best friend!
