My Dog and I #1

This Thanksgiving has been very special for me. I finally got something that I have been longing for. My first pet dog Mojo passed away when I was 2.5 years old. I have faint memories of Mojo, but my family tells me wondeful stories of him.

I have been waiting for my furry friend for a long while. We started discussing getting a dog this summer. My parents kept telling my brother and me that a dog is not a toy. They have to be treated with care because they are a living being who is dependent on us.

A dog needs to poop and pee , and we have to make sure he is taken out enough times and cleaned up. We need to bathe him s because he cannot do so on his own. We have to brush his teeth because the does not have fingers to hold the brush. After some debating and discussing, we promised that we are and responsible enough to take care of a dog.

Mojo was a handsome and playful pomeranian. We got to spend some time with a friend’s husky and he was really playful too. We did some research and decided to get a Siberian Husky!

My father found a breeder and a husky puppy, 2 hrs from home. We decided to go an meet him over the weekend. That whole week before Thanksgiving, I was so excited to meet the Siberian Husky, I couldn’t wait. I was quite sure we would get him home. We wanted to be ready and so we shopped at a store for dog’s toys, food and a bed. I would think of names for him in the night. It felt like the longest school week ever and I couldn’t bear the feeling. It was possible that someone would pick him in the week, I got a lot of anxiety and stress from that and to be honest, I could not focus in class.

Then came the day of getting the dog. I was super excited, I kept on asking my dad what time we were leaving and he said around 10:30. I got ready very quickly and then went around urging my family to get ready quickly.

We then set off on our journey — a 2 hour ride to Fresno. We stopped along the way at a restaurant and also got some cleaning supplies for if the dog peed or pooped in the car.

We arrived at a house and met the breeder, I just wanted to see the puppy. My excitement knew no bounds when she went in to fetch him. And then he came out, he was super hyper and jumped onto us and licked our faces. It was such a great feeling!

My parents had already planned to bring him home that day. It took an hour to sign the paperwork. I could not believe how calm he was. We helped him climb into a car, he had never seen one is his 5 months of life!

I sat in the back seat petting him as he sat on the trunk area. I poured some water from a bottle in his bowl for him to drink. He was nervous but to our surprise he did not squeal or howl in the car at all.

It was very dark when we reached home. We took him inside the home on his leash to carefully introduce him to his new surroundings. He was calm and quiet. I could not believe how he did that — that is one thing I learnt from him the very first day , to be calm in a new situation.

By the way his name is Axl and he is our new family member!

Axl

I will write more about Axl’s adventures soon! Till then, Farewell!
